Ukiyo (浮世), translated literally as the "floating world", describes the concept of living in the moment, detached from the burdens and sorrows of life. Historically, it referred to the hedonistic, pleasure-seeking urban lifestyle of Japan's Edo period. Split into two parts: in the floating world, and The Little Pilgrims.

in the floating world showcases 16 drawings with some of Nara’s iconic ‘young girl’ subjects being drawn/painted over pre-existing artwork from the Edo Period. Through vibrant colors and a mix of artistic styles, Nara creates a unique dialogue between his work and the art of Japan’s past.

Photographed by Takashi Homma, The Little Pilgrims showcases Nara’s three-dimensional work of five identical, softly colored pastel-toned figures, sleepwalking with their eyes closed.
