Shincho Mook - Out of Photographers Magazine
1997. Shincho Mook, Tokyo, Japan, No. 001
Published by Shincho Mook, Out Of Photographers was a late-nineties Japanese alt-photography magazine that lasted about a dozen issues into 1999. Each issue features photos by celebrities, non-celebrities, and theme-based photos (funny faces, sleeping faces, peace-sign poses, group photos, private photos, photo collages, etc.). A large number of photographers contribute to the magazine. The amount of space given to a contributor varies widely from one photo to a multiple-page spread.
Issue 001 features a few pages by a young Yurie Nagashima, and several more taken by a photographer photographing Nobuyoshi Araki at work. In addition to the J-Phone ads, it’s a terrific testament to 90′s in that there’s probably no higher concentration of published photographs shot with Konica Big Minis than what’s found in issues of Out Of Photographers.
