Kyoichi Tsuzuki — Tokyo Style
First printing, 1997, Kyoto Shoin, Japan
Over a period of two years, writer/photographer Kyoichi Tsuzuki visited more than 100 apartments, condos, and suburban homes, lovingly documenting what he saw. Cluttered closet-sized walk-ups whose occupants use their neighborhood as an "extended living room."
Tsuzuki’s goal was to capture raw, realistic images of the architecture of Japanese citizens who live their day-to-day life in the homes that they work hard for. It is somewhat comforting to see piles of books in a cramped space, a TV remote left on the ground, and pizza menus scattered across the coffee/dinner table, with instant noodle cups left on the kitchen counter for days on end. This is the Tokyo Style that Kyoichi Tsuzuki captures so beautifully. A miniature book you can take anywhere, or leave on your coffee table as a light read for guests.
