Masumi Ishida - Light Years + Echo

Ishida is a nineteen-year-old photographer and she has been taken her personal matters - friends of girls' high school who were together for 6 years, school days, and lights. Her photography is filled with sentiment "everything will flow", that was real feeling in the end of her school days. Because of her big love for friends and daily matters, that has sticking to her heart--she says.

“But we know that everything -- even just flowed away and forgotten-- is still there -- somewhere in the memory, and illuminating for present, just like far light from the ancient stars. That's why we titled this piece "light years".”

In commemoration of the publication of the second edition of Masumi Ishida's first photo book "light years -light years-", a two-part solo exhibition "ripple / echo" tour has begun, starting with book obscura in Kichijoji.

For this book, Ishida revisited the school she once attended. The time recorded in "light years" has passed, a place that was once almost all of my world and is no longer there. This small photobook “light years revisited “echo”” is a collection of works that captured the echoes of time and the light of the present on film four years later.

The twill of light and time that Ishida saw in a place far away from the days of "light years" that Ishida herself shot in the midst of a special time is quietly engraved here.
